This was the very first book of this authors that I had ever read and it's likely the best. I haven't read it in over 10 years but was something good to read and thought why not? The quality of her books has declined (to me) over the years and the last one I didn't even purchase but she certainly knows how to write a book that's hard to put down. Definitely worth the read!!

This is another story I really enjoyed. I love how SEP creates such strong-willed heroines and puts them into trying circumstances that pits the whole world against them. Instead of relying solely on the hero, this heroine takes the hits as they come and still keeps on fighting. Great story, good sex scenes, and very unforgettable characters.
I have to say I was a little disappointed this one wasn't centered around the Chicago Stars, but at the same time, there was so much about Gabe and all the uncertainty around him after he lost his wife and son, it's good we got to see what happened to him. And Ethan for that matter. There were so many times I wanted to cry during this one. People can be so cruel. I realize this is fiction, but I can see something like this happening anywhere... people blame the person left instead of the one who did all the horrible things. Rachel was such a strong person. And it was so great to see how forgiving she was. People were just mean, but when it came down to it, when they wronged her and apologized for it, she just accepted their apology. She was so strong for her son. She saved Gabe. She sort of saved Ethan (getting Christy all gussied up for him). She saved herself. I think this was sort of a story of redeption for both Rachel and for Gabe. I wasn't as over the moon as I have been about the others, and I think it's due to the depressing nature of some of the stuff. It was a good story, and it ended on a great note, but I was just so sad in some spots! On to the next one that I hear is many peoples' favorite.
One of my favorite of the Chicago Stars series (even though it's more of a Bonner brothers duo). I love Rachel's independence and her refusal to let the world dictate who she is and how she behaves. She loves her son fiercely and everything she does is for him. Gabe is a grief-stricken man and it takes him a long time to figure out Rachel is everything he didn't know he needed.
Just like all SEP books, I really enjoyed this one. In addition to the main story line, I thoroughly enjoyed the side story with Pastor Ethan. Another fun story from SEP.
This book is fine as a stand-alone but has no business being a part of the Chicago Stars series. It was more like a spin-off of book #3.
The Ethan character was ridiculous. Kristy lays out how poorly she's been treated by this man, they have one date (but not really), and then she agrees to marry him so they can have sex?
Cal and Ethan versus Rachel was a frustrating plotline, kind of wooden, and then Rachel heals people by the end?
If you're a fan of the Stars series, you can skip this one.
