I probably need to give this book a second listen if I'm being honest. It was good but I had a wondering mind so I didn't necessarily soak it in as well as I could have

Whimsical fantasy involving known fairy tales. Enjoyed it but I have probably out grown the genre and style of book. Really enjoyed the writing. Pleasant change. Recommend a read.

Who knew good endings could be so sad?
This is an extraordinary story about grief,  mortality, and humanity. I can’t say much more other than it’s spectacular and deserves to be considered a timeless classic.

Not at all what I expected it to be.

Ehh

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle is a mixture of classic fairy tale with high fantasy in a way that blends the literal with figurative. The writing is at times poetic and at other times very prosaic. Beagle has a way of making the world feel old, mysterious, yet a little bit sad—as if magic is slipping away but not yet gone. The story has plenty for the kids, like talking animals, wizards, adventure and clear irony, but there’s a lot beneath the surface that really hits harder as an adult—themes of loss, change, and what it means to be yourself. It’s the kind of book that sticks with you and feels a little different every time you read it.
