3.5 Is my actual score

This is my second time reading this book. The first time I went through it on audio about a year ago. and it was pretty awful. The narrator (the author himself) was monotone and uninspired. I found it extremely hard to focus. Now going back and reading it I can see why. Not only did the author do a bad job at narrating, but the prose of the book is very unique; I'd say old school even, just like a fairy tale.

That's exactly what this book is too. A fairy tale. And a good one at that. This is a book that, as an adult, is easily recognizable as good, but it would have been so much more fantastical to read it as a child. And I can't wait to read this to my kids. Once they get older they are going to love this story.

This book is filled with a bunch of fun characters. From the evil, to the laughable, to the hero. And I enjoyed all of them.

If you're a fan of [b:The Princess Bride|21787|The Princess Bride |William Goldman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327903636s/21787.jpg|992628] or [b:The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales|22917|The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales|Jacob Grimm|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1369540060s/22917.jpg|1855987] or anything similar. You should give this book a shot.

dnfing, the style just isn't for me. It starts out beautifully and then I have a hard time following along once she leaves the forest. The formatting and narration is like the embodiment of ADHD and becomes like a weird fever dream.
