A lovely collection on Māori womanhood plays with the horrors and power of the feminine divine in mythology. I am looking forward to engaging with more of Tibble's work.

A couple of interesting turns of phrases, some intriguing imagery but overall this poetry collection was not for me.

I quite enjoyed the Twilight inspired “Vampires versus Werewolves” piece so I might be checking back in with this author in some more distant future.

Undeniably atmospheric at moments, sexy at others.
Tayi is writing poetry for the new age, balancing our modern thoughts and behaviors with Māori and feminist viewpoints.

“The men stare with eyelids heavy from alcohol, the same half-shut way that God probably regards us all.”

I love when media is referential to current times. It has a stink to it — most people find it disingenuous, but I believe it serves as a beautiful marker to pop culture. This poetry collection cleverly evokes the feeling of ‘today.’

4.5, represented as a 5.

Thank you to Knopf for a review copy, in exchange for an honest review.
