this girl runs too much...

3.5 stars

4.5 cliffy loving stars!

First of all, I am an admitted Lisa Renee Jones fangirl. I love her ability to write scorching hot romances with mystery weaved in. Not many writers can do that, and she just nails it, every time.

So, on to Escaping Reality.

First of all, it’s a cliffhanger. A HUGE cliffhanger. One that made me slam my kindle shut and growl.

However, it’s worth it. It’s worth it because you know that the next book is going to be amazeballs and you will get your answers.

And you need answers. Lots of them. Because this book? Is FULL of unanswered questions. It’s a heart racer, full stop.

Let’s talk about the questions, shall we?

We have Amy. Amy is running, and she has to keep running. She is being helped by a mystery “handler” that tells her when to run. Why? We see snippets of the reason, but the whole story is a mystery.

“I’ve found you and so can they. Go to JFK Airport directly. Do not go home. Do not linger. Locker 111 will have everything you need.”

Then there is Liam. Liam is hot, rich, alpha, controlling, and troubled. Sounds like my kind of man, right there! He is also hiding something. What is it? Another mystery.

“He makes me feel I don’t have to hold the world up on my own.”

Oh, and the neighbor across the hall, Jared. Why is he familiar? What is HE hiding? There is something there, for sure.

So many questions!!

Now, let’s talk about the man of the hour, Liam. I know he is what you all want to know about. Let me tell you, he’s hot. We are talking Christian/Gideon/Jesse hot. He is in control at all times and is alpha-protective to the max. He’s the guy that doesn’t “do” relationships that falls for the girl in need, and when he falls, he falls all the way.

"I'm insane for you, Amy. 'Like' lasted all of ten minutes."

“And yes, you’re right. I’m being barbaric. And intense. That’s who I am and I can’t be anyone but me. When I want something I go after it. And baby, I want you...”

And the sex? Scorching (of course! Lisa Renee Jones knows how to write sex scenes like it’s nobody’s business!)

“ His finger slides under my chin, tilts it up, forcing my eyes back to his. “Don’t hide what you feel. See, baby, that’s the thing about fucking properly, it’s raw and honest. There’s no time limit, or embarrassment, or nerves, which should exist. It’s just us fucking. Us feeling. Us being us together. We leave everything else at the door.” He smiles a sexy, easy smile and his hands slide up my back, his forehead resting against mine.”

*swoon*

Ok, so you have your hot guy, you have your mystery. It’s an awesome package. You will NOT however, get your answers. Not this time around. You will get your heart racing and you will be intrigued. It’s worth it, I promise. The wait will be worth it, I am sure of it. And in the meantime, you can make up your own answers in your head and then have them all blown out of the water!

4.5 stars - Another amazing read from Lisa Renee Jones!!!!!!

- I LOVE the characters and really enjoyed the mystery in this story line. I suspect everyone and think nothing is as it seems, especially with that cliffhanger - wow.
- Amy is a hot mess, vulnerable and her indecision is completely acceptable - usually this would make me crazy, but with her life as it is it would be MUCH less realistic if she were less frazzled.
- I couldn't be happier about my inadvertent good timing - finished this just as Infinite Possibilities is released
- LOVE, LOVE that it all takes place in my home state and a city that I know well.

This is not the typical kind of book that I read but a review here on Goodreads persuaded me to try it and I wasn't disappointed. There was enough plot to keep me engaged and disappointed that it ended. I have ordered both sequels and am anxiously awaiting their arrival!

The main character is full of mystery. What exactly happened to her? Why is she on the run? Who is helping her? And Liam... He seems to have some demons in his past. I don't really care for how forceful he is with her but I recognize that is the personality the author wants him to have. So far the relationship between the two is mostly physical in nature although you can see that Amy craves some of the things Liam says he wants to give her. (The end of the book leaves you wondering if he really meant what he said and hopefully the sequel will explain this.)

I tend to be a slow reader but this book was hard to put down. I wanted to understand both characters better. And the romantic scenes were steamy without being sleazy. My one criticism is that I wish the author had used proper terminology instead of euphemisms.

Amy had been living a normal life when everything is turned upside down. Now at twenty four she's always on the run and never knowing where she'll be next. She is now in New York working for the Manhattan Metro Museum and has been for the past two months. Before that a research assistant at the local library. For six years that was her normal but yet she's being notified that she is to be on the run once again. Her handler has posted a letter in the restroom of the museum during a charity event. He saved her life and has been keeping her safe since but knowing she will never be herself makes her sick to her stomach. Always missing her family and her hometown because she's always on the run. Can she ever find normality?

She hops the plane that her handler has set up for her and has the pleasure of seeing an extremely handsome man at the gate of her flight. She's been notified that her seat is no longer available, so she won't be seeing the sexy stranger again. Then she is called to the front desk and notified there has been a change and she will now be seated in first class. Excited yet reluctant, she goes about her way to finding her seat. While she's putting her luggage up she has some trouble and a man comes behind her to help. To her surprise it's Sir sexy from the gate seating and he's so close now that she can smell his cologne. As her heart spreads up, he asks what seat she would like. She takes the window seat and he the isle seat. As the flight goes on they learn a little about each other and she feels more and more comfortable with him, which is the first time in many years. She finds out that his name is Liam Stone and he's a very successful architect. They have this odd but very normal electricity about them that she is very unused to. She is so drawn to him that she loses herself in his presence. She has to get away from him fast because getting close to anyone is not part of the agenda.

Amy gets off the plane fleeing before Liam can catch up to her but of course one more thing is prolonging her departure. The damn taxi line is ridiculous and next to her a black sedan pulls up and Liam hops out. He grabs her bags and puts them in the trunk before she can object. Amy is put off but excited by this man in so many ways but can she let her guard down with him? Can she get close to someone even though she's on the run?

I loved this book and give it a solid 5 stars. There are so many twists and turns that you really never know where Amy will turn up next. I was on the edge of my seat through almost this whole book and can't wait til the next book. This book is definitely not for anyone under 17 because of the very adult situations!! Lisa is brilliant and I look forward to reading some of her other books.

Can't wait for the next one!!

Escaping Reality is the first book in The Secret Life of Amy Benson series of novels and follows Amy as she tries to avoid the people who murdered her family, as well as find out who her secret protector is.

After fleeing New York at the urging of this protector, Amy meets and falls for billionaire architect Liam Stone. Insta-love never really works and this is no exception. For someone who’s spent six years of her life on the run and using a secret identity, Amy gets wrapped up in Liam all too easily, though she holds any and everyone else under deep suspicion. At one point, Liam comes off as an abusive gas-lighter, which the author explains away by an encounter Liam has with the father who abandoned him at a young age. There are red flags everywhere about this relationship that we’re supposed to accept as just an alpha man protecting his woman. The cliffhanger will leave you questioning his motivations as much as Amy should’ve been doing for the entirety of the novel.

What does work for Escaping Reality are the little crumbs we get of what happened to Amy’s family and why it happened. The mystery of her archaeologist father and the secrets her mother and brother were obviously hiding that led to their deaths are intriguing enough to keep readers around wanting the answers.

At eighteen Lara must leave her old life behind and start a new one as Amy, she gets everything she needs for this new life from her 'handler' (I need to find out who this is btw) and embarks on a new journey. Years later Amy is in danger and must leave again so she hops on a plane, where she meets a sexy billionaire named Liam.

Unfortunately for Amy, but fortunately for us, she is drawn to this mysterious man who surprisingly doesn't take no for an answer, but who does these days I guess. Slowly but surely Amy begins to lower her walls around Liam and starts to let him in. Literally things progress super fast and they're living together, and hey next door neighbor Jared, who is vaguely familiar.

Soon Amy begins digging for the truth, but some truths are better left hidden.

So I really loved this book! Once I finally realized I had the wrong kindle e-mail and actually got the book on my kindle I was so excited and it didn't disappoint. I'm left with more questions than answers and can't wait to grab the second installment.

I would definitely recommend!
