A short and sweet little thing, but oh I wish there was more.

One of my faves.

I read this as part of an anthology called After Twilight, and I loved it.

Out of all seven of the first dark books, this one was the shortest. That's not to that wasn't a lovely read, of course. But it could have gone better too. While I have no problems with the charactes, I found that the way Sara accept everything, which she thought was fantasy, lacking. And the children could have been given more life than just mere mentions.

That said, I find myself concluding that this book was made as a way of introducing the next arc of the Carpathian series, which includes a new set of characters and a more intricate story.

Although it was a short story, I enjoyed it a lot for several reasons. Falcon is clearly, at this point, the oldest Carpthian male we have met yet he allows his lifemate the choice to accept him and also choose becoming like him (yes, Tempest in the last book chose to become Carpthian, but unlike Sara she had to take drastic measures to force Darius to change her). He also listens to Sara and accepts that she has to help to take down the vampire in the book. As for Sara, she not only is more quick to accept Falxon and what he is, she is more pragmatic about Falcon being a predator who must kill those who are a threat to them.

Really enjoyed it. Sara is different to the other girls in that she accepts her fate easily, and doesn't fight Falcon. Love Falcon because he's not as possessive or as controlling as the other Carpathian males. He understands that she's independent and accepts it with no fuss. I think the whole diary thing and Falcon wanting to give her something of himself even if he could never be with her, was beautiful. So touching.

This is just a short story but actually one of my favorites in the series so far. I do wish we had some more time to learn about the children they adopt.

Surprise! I actually loved this book! Falcon is still a caveman like the rest of the Carpathian males but he actually asks Sara what she wants! Mind blown when I heard that. I do not remember any of the other males doing that. Not only that but the wants Sara to have all her dreams. Crazy concept. Falcon is by far my favorite. He's the only one who wants his female to have opinions!

Now the book was extremely short and they fell in love basically instantly which is bat shit crazy.. but whatever. I still enjoyed the story. And really she already knew about him because she's been dreaming about him.. and maybe I am just making up excuses... but again whatever. It was still good.

By far my favorite of the series.

I read most of the series when it first came out and now I'm working my way through the entire Dark series in audio. It has been interesting to see how my opinions of characters have changed. There have been a couple so far in the series that I don't remember annoying the crap out of me when I first read the books. That said, there have been other stories that I didn't remember as well, but greatly enjoy now. This was one of those stories. I only wish it would have been a little longer.
