Enjoyed book since it took place in the area that I grew up.

This book started out for me kinda lukewarm, then gradually I got pretty into it, until by the end I was practically obsessed with it. It really grows on you as you get into the story and start to understand what's going on and then all of a sudden you realize you NEVER understood what was going on and it blows your mind.

This isn't a bad book, it just wasn't for me. I was hoping that the book would focus more on lace reading instead of drama, drama, drama. I was disappointed.

Towner tells us at the beginning that she is crazy and that she is a liar. I'm fairly certain of the first, not so sure of the second. Truly a mystery, as I'm not sure we have any answers at the end.

Hmm... engrossing, for sure. For someone who likes suspense and a touch of magic / the supernatural. I was surprised (and happy to be surprised) by the ending, although I agree with another reviewer that there isn't enough of a denouement. I still have some frustrating questions about this story, now that I've gotten to the end of it. I didn't like the main character--she felt like a cardboard cutout, as did all the characters, really--but personally, I did like the plot. Some of the reviews have called it disjointed, but I assumed it was intentional and appreciated the atmosphere. I'm not really sure where the title came from, though, as (as someone else mentioned, as well) lace reading comes into play very, very little.

I found this book inconsistent. Some parts were very interesting and well written and then there were other things that were overblown, predictable, or just plain boring. Supposed to be discussing it in a book club group, so that should be interesting...

There's heavy mystery from the beginning. It's interesting to learn about lace reading in each chapter while the FMC's life unfolds. You learn about her twin and the life they led up to current times. It's witchy and mysterious. Good mental health rep of different kinds. Leaves you wondering if there's true magic at play. Well written characters and world building. Being in modern times, it's not difficult to picture it.
