Gone Girl is a dark, tense and psychological thriller that isn't for the faint hearted. It follows the characters of Nick Dunne and Amy Elliott. It starts on the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, and she has vanished. He's now under pressure from the police department and social media, but his portrayal of a happy marriage begins to fall to pieces as a lot of new information is revealed. I was pretty much terrified the entire time reading this book, the plot twists, the character development, the tension build up was all written flawlessly. The character aren't loveable per se however they are some of the best characters I've ever read. The only issue I have with this book is that it took me a while to get through as I felt that it was too slow at the start. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers or dark books in general.

“Nick loved a girl who doesn't exist. I was pretending, the way I often did, pretending to have a personality. I can't help it, it's what I've always done: The way some women change fashion regularly, I change personalities.”

What did I just read hello

So before I start I would like to clarify that I am a teenager who is used to reading fantasy & romance books, so reading Gone Girl was something out of my comfort reading zone. The closest book I read similar to this is probably The Inheritance Games.

The beginning immediately shows you what to expect in the book with the starting quote that I did not expect. I was weirdened out at first but of course I kept reading.

Like I said, since I am a YA reader, the characters being in their late 30’s to early 40’s was hard to picture in my head. When I read, I imagine everyone young so it was pretty hard to picture at first.

There were twists I did not see coming, and they are so good. The book is written in a way you want to know more with every information learned. The characters are calculated and full of secrets and once again they are in their thirties.

I’m excited to watch the movie for the first time & compare the book from it. The author did an amazing job writing this story. This also made me want to rewatch You on Netflix & maybe read more books with the similar genre, who knows !

4/5 stars because it tackled some topics that were too vulgar for me to read.
