WAUW.

'The Sound of the World By Heart' by Giacomo Bevilacqua is a graphic novel about an artist's experiment in silence and what that may cost him.

Sam is a photojournalist who has suffered a big loss. He decides to give himself an assignment of living in New York for 60 days without talking to another person. He does this by making sure he always wears headphones and doesn't eat at the same restaraunt too often. His ordered life becomes disordered when he develops his rolls of film and discovers all the pictures feature the same woman. He has been avoiding human contact, but the city has ways of turning Sam's world upside down.

I liked the art quite a bit. I understand why the entire book is narrated, but it's not my favorite way to read a graphic novel. I wasn't sure about the story at the beginning, but by the end, I realized that I liked where the story went.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Magnetic Press, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Peccato...

I received a free e-copy through Netgalley, in return for an honest review.

I simply loved the pictures that portray the story of someone who chose to cancel the noise of daily interactions in a big city. The colour-contrasts made even more clear how different things started to stand out.

The text was wonderful too, although the (quite usual for a comic) style of the letters made it not easy to read in an e-format. I'd certainly buy 'The Sound of the World By Heart' for myself, but only as a hard copy, because of this.

I don't even know how to review this. I think it went way over my head, but I still really enjoyed it. It's compelling, I couldn't stop reading. But I honestly can't even tell you why. I'm definitely going to have to read it again.

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley.

Beautiful imagery - you feel the warmth of light and color, the dampness of the wet pavement, the crisp winter wind... amazing use of color and light to tell the story!

The text of the story took a bit to get used to - like a friend who's sentence structure that is vastly different from your own - but I blamed that on translation.

Loved this book!

Gran bel lavoro!
