I didn't enjoy it as much as the 1st, and I felt there was fatphobia that wasn't just through the 'eyes of the men' as it claims. So I give it a 4.

Nevertheless I like retellings and this one engaged with the idea of what it actually means to be given as a prize of war- pretty bleak. The way the women were trying to find ways to be - and stay true to themselves- in terrible circumstances was compelling and felt well handled
Moderate: Pregnancy, Slavery, Kidnapping, Grief, War, Sexual violence, Rape, Misogyny, and Death
Minor: Torture

Unlike the first of the series, there is hardly any magnitude of lore to give Briseis’ bathos depth, which makes this novel more challenging to read by itself. It’s a good continuation however, and lends itself to an enrichment to the first - much like Pyrrhus himself, it suffers some sequel syndrome.
Not as gut-punching as the first; perhaps Briseis’ return to grace alienates her somewhat to the suffering that surrounds her.
Moderate: Pregnancy
Minor: Torture and Sexual harassment

Honestly mid. Plot goes nowhere. Characters unlikable, especially the Trojans. Somehow manages to make a book about the Trojan side of the war where the Trojans are more unlikable than the Greeks. The MC is so inconsistent (and not in a character growth kind of way, in a character has no real alliegance sort of way) and is constantly criticising traumatised women and comparing them to one another and just being the worst. Meanwhile the Greeks are portrayed as these backwards savages who have no respect for anything but the MC is still bending over backwards to praise them every chance she gets. Honestly the author writes well but has no business writing these stories. Can't take these Greek soldiers with their "ullo guv'nor" British accents seriously.glowan4's review against another edition
