This cover is pretty ugly but inside is a YA romance that fits among the others. It's no Instant Karma or Charming as a Verb (or Rachel Lynn Solomon or Tweet Cute, or you know, any of the books and authors I've liked more strongly these past two years (I'm reminding myself they exist and there's actually a lot of them)). It's very Better Than The Movies, Five Ways to Fall Out of Love tier (books I don't care at all about for the record). And the male MC is like exceptionally geeky and the female MC is a pretty cliche protagonist and the story does the choosing between the best friend and this other perfect boy thing where it's kind of cheaty and unnecessary. But. The two MCs are cute together, what can I say? I didn't hate this at all. And the author's narrative about teenage relationships and sex seems healthy enough.
(Side note this is like the one time ever I thought two protagonists were about to have sex and went no please no not now. I'm usually like just have sex already. This is actually an unrelated tangent with nothing to do with my previous statement (this book is definitely not anti-sex or anything) but gosh my poor nerves)

Surprisingly good for YA romance, just a lot of angst. Also I hate love triangles, I’d much prefer one guy, not angsting over which one you love and oh are my feelings real and blah blah
But it’s YA so yeah. Also surprisingly smutty for YA, now I’m wondering whether it even is classed as that?
Oh well, fun, cute, right amount of conflict for me, quick read

My favorite part of "How Not to Fall In Love" was the characters, from Harper and her practicality to Pippa to Theo & Felix. It's refreshing to read a book where no one is set up to be a bad person, everyone is just a person. I like how the author found a way to bring in great vocabulary words into the story without it seeming trite. I appreciated that all of the characters had distinct personalities, habits, styles, and they were all treated with care.
This was one of the healthiest portrayals of dating i've seen, where everyone treats people with respect and everyone approaches love and relationships differently without those approaches being wrong or bad. This was a lovely book to open up the year with.
My main complaint was that the plot of the book was pretty predictable from the start, but it was a nice ride to the expected outcome.

Harper, a self proclaimed love cynic, helps manage her mothers wedding dress shop. After years of seeing the business end of weddings, hysterical and demanding brides, she doesn’t believe in happily ever afters. Theo, her best friend, is the exact opposite. With stars in his eyes, he appears to fall in love at the drop of a hat. Enter Felix, a handsome athlete who might just make Harper reconsider her feelings about falling in love. With her feet firmly planted on the ground and her best friends head in the clouds, will she take a leap of faith, and into whose arms?
I normally do not gravitate towards YA romance but when I was kindly offered an ARC and read the synopsis, I couldn’t pass it up.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It was well written, I enjoyed the setting and the characters were endearing.
If you enjoy the YA Romance genre, witty dialogue with fun banter, well developed characters, this book is for you!

This should’ve been labeled YA. It’s about a romance between high schoolers.
I really enjoyed this sweet read about Harper, who is a bit cynical about romance and her bestie, Theo, who falls in love all the time and falls hard! Their friendship is very sweet and I also love Harper's friendship with Pippa who works with her at the bridal shop. All the side characters in this book are so well developed, I could imagine every single one of them. I love realistic fiction and I love romance and this was a wonderful blend of both! Highly recommend!
