I loved every minute of the book from a plot standpoint. The mystery was great and the author did a good job making the characters mostly as Ms. Austen wrote them. I took away a star for the descent that Mr. Wickham, Mr. Collins, and Lady Catherine’s characters were driven. I have no love lost for any of these characters and I understand why she chose them, but I could not help thinking they were done a bit to deplorable. Other than that, I loved every minute of this book!

This is one of those books I save for gloomy rainy days when I can curl up with a hot cup of tea and lose myself in a cozy story. It's not overly complicated, and is pretty simple compared to other romances or murder mysteries -but I actually like that about it. Once I started reading, I found I couldn't put the book down. Tirzah Price's writing style is one of the most enjoyable that I've found among new writers in the past five or so years.

My main complaint with the novel is that the murder-mystery felt rushed and simplified for what it was, but given that this isn't purely a murder mystery, I didn't mind too much.

If you're a Pride and Prejudice fan, and you want to see the characters in a different style of story and just have a nice cozy and fun read, this may be the book for you.

If you're looking for a re-imagined version that strictly follows not only historical accuracy but also a more "serious" murder mystery, this book ISN'T for you.

I had to keep reminding myself that this retelling is just that, a retelling, not the original. I knew I loved the original but realized just how much through reading this. I did enjoy the way that certain characters got their comeuppance, especially Collins and the way that Price handled the romance, much more like how Austen portrayed it than how Price handled the romance in book three, Manslaughter Park. If you go into the book expecting the original, you'll be disappointed but if you set expectations correctly, you're in for a ride.
