I took me a whole year to finish Drums of Autumn, and I told myself I would read one Outlander book each year after. But it’s been two years since then. The only reason I finished The Fiery Cross in 2 weeks was because it was a library audiobook and I could increase the speed. This was my first Outlander series on audiobook, and I wasn’t a huge fan.
The Fiery Cross is basically Drums of Autumn part 2, it just continues the plot and nothing happens! 55 hours/1440 pages of nothing new. The plot itself is also problematic. There are racist descriptions of Native Americans and Black enslaved people. It’s unclear to me if it’s supposed to be the characters or just Diana Gabaldon. It doesn’t matter what the reason, it’s there and full of white saviorism. It was such a slog, and definitely the last Outlander book I’ll read.
Graphic: Gun violence, Violence, and Slavery
Moderate: Rape

I really enjoy the Outlander series. But this book was truly terrible. While some interesting and exciting things happened, I don't feel that this installment in the series moved the plot along. Considering that this book is almost 1,000 pages, it should have progressed more. I still can't really say exactly what this book was about. It seemed like a bunch of smaller stories wrapped into one. Basically, if the first book in the series had been written this way, I would not have continued with the series. I forced myself to finish this book because at this point I'm invested in the characters and stories.
Moderate: Rape and Medical content
