"When the day shall come that we do part," he said softly and turned to look at me, "if my last words are not 'I love you'âyou'll ken it was because I did have time."
Just when I think that I'll never make it through this series, I read another book and am sucked right back into the story.
I think that The Fiery Cross may be my new favorite in the series. There was so much packed into this story (as there should be since it's almost 1500 pages), but there was just something about this specific book that seemed to hit differently than all of the others. I feel like we were given a deeper glimpse into the innermost thoughts of all the characters, which made me appreciate their individual stories even more.
Now to tackle book six, A Breath of Snow and Ashes!

This took me MONTHS to finish and the only reason I got through it at all was friends telling me âit gets good. Youâll want to know what happenedâ. Well it took long enough. I feel like the last 400 pages couldâve been itâs own book and it wouldâve been a solid 4-4.5 stars. The first 600 was 1 star at best. But Iâll continue the series and hope the next one is closer to the standards of the first part of the series.

1500 pages for a 3 star book is not ideal. This was just a slog and nothing really happened? If I didnât already like the characters, this would be a much lower rating.

I haven't read an outlander book for so long because they are just exhausting. It feels like someone is going to die on every second page. Which makes me want to not put it down AND throw it at a wall.
By page 100 I was getting frustrated that Gabaldon was taking SO LONG to describe them basically just getting up and having breakfast.
But it was necessary, and it fit the 'murder mystery' vibe. Once I caught onto the vibe, I had a lot of fun reading intently and trying to remember small details.
Also, wow Gabaldon can really set up a scene. The way she describes feelings attached to sights and sounds and smells.... Im addicted.
I'm super super happy with how this book ended. In book 4 it felt like Brianna and Rodger were just added for extra drama. But now they feel organic and like characters in their own right. All the drama they went through in book 4 has had a permanent effect and changed them, which makes them feel more real.
Also, poor Rodger. All I could think was why???? But, again, it actually made me like him more. Same with the snake bite saga, at first I was like: why??? But the result was so sweet. Rodger is like the dog that your dad doesn't want at first, but then he loves it the most out of anyone.
Can you tell I like Rodger? I never thought I'd say this....but... I'm ready for Claire and Jamie to die and have it be all about Brianna and Rodger. Cold. But true.
