I loved listening to the audiobook version of this funny, poignant, and sometimes painful story.  Tara Flynn’s reading was deeply enjoyable; I had several moments of laughing out loud in public with my headphones on. Caroline manages to convey the complexities of young adulthood and friendship with heartbreaking finesse. The characters are layered, charming and, complex. Rachel is relatable in her self-questioning, her stubbornness, and her reflections on her own naivety of young womanhood. I don’t love a lot of heterosexual woe, but important topics of class, homosexuality, abortion,… are deftly explored and made this a rich and thoughtful read.

This book really surprised me in a good way. At first, the main character felt shallow and selfish (she was written to be that way in some ways). The chaos and fervor of youth is so clear, and the journey to finding what is right for you. The reckoning with your past and your present, and holding fast to people you love is so good. I loved the audiobook, and really just loved the whole story. Would recommend looking up trigger warnings.
