There's so much cool things about this book. It is set in 24 hours timeline and it must be so tricky as character can't be grow or develop in this particular short time. But this book handled it so well. the more cool things in it were the texts, receipts, emails, short notes (diary, pages etc) and letters. And let me tell you it has the cutest love letter I have ever seen(sobbing*). Talking about characters Neil and Rowan are the academic rivals since four years and the book starts with the last day at school and their teasing texts to each other. Again so mich happened in these 24 hours. Scavenger hunt the unexpected teaming up of both main characters. Their adventures little gossips teasing sabotaging and everything was so cute.Rowan is a romance novel lover hopeless romantic girlie. while Neil is a classic lit lover guy. But the 24h they spent together changed their views and everything else for them. I can't tell how much I love them its so cute. This is the second book by this author and I'm force to give 6 stars to it as always.

This was really sweet!!! Seems to be a theme with this author's books that the characters aren't super likable for me at the beginning—I don't know much about them yet and it's easy for them to come off a little obnoxious. But I love to see them develop into better people and learn about their histories! Neil and Rowan felt more college than high school to me, but the high school setting works better than college would have. There were a number of moments when Rowan felt preachy about feminism—the sentiments weren't wrong and I totally related, but they just felt a little heavy-handed. Luckily it didn't happen too often so it didn't bother me over much. I'm looking forward to how their long distance relationship develops in the sequel!

““I just wanted to make sure— I don’t know. That you realized it’s me.”
All the books in the world couldn’t have prepared me for this moment. There aren’t enough words.
“That’s the best part,” I tell him.””

What more could I have asked for. This is the perfect high school academic enemies to friends/ lovers. I love how most of the story was set during the final graduation event, a city-wide scavenger hunt. Rowan has to team up with her #1 rival, Neil McNair, in order to make sure they both survive till the end so she can be the one to take him down ahah. Neil was the most fictional, unrealistic teenage boy that there ever was, but no complaints here. The note he left in her yearbook?? Poetry.

My only complaint is that the slightly explicit language throughout and the scene at the end were completely unnecessary, especially given that this a YA novel.

Shmoopy books are not usually my jam but this one was cute and endearing in all the right, nerdy ways!
sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

i was worried this was gonna be a dnf. there was a lot of cringey details that i had to pretend didn’t exist. however, i zoomed thru, and by the end, my little heart was happy. i thought it was a really sweet portrayal of first love

I would probably really had enjoyed this when I was in high school, and since I wasn’t the target audience, this just wasn’t for me. 🤷‍♀️

Why didn’t I read that book earlier? It was literally all I needed. Rowan and Neil had the sweetest rivals-to-lovers arc, and I absolutely fell in love with their story. Yes, some parts of the plot were predictable, but who cares it's a wholesome high school romance. I will sing this book's praise till the day I die.
