"Youth was the penny that bought delight of the moon"

This book was a real surprise after having read The Great Gatsby years ago and not being too impressed about F. Scott Fitzgerald, I started to read this book with lower expectations but I must say this is easily so much better than his other work in my opinion. The writing style changes as much as the Character Amory himself. The poems and texts recited in the book are well-chosen and many parts highlight Fitzgerald's skill to use beautiful word constructions to express intelligent thoughts.

Found it kind of boring and choppy, kind of difficult to care for Amory.
Didn’t have the patience for how boring the “Narcissus Off Duty” chapter was, so I skipped it, and unfortunately from what I skimmed, I don’t think I missed anything.

3.5 stars

Took far too long to make the point - Jazz Age folks were disillusioned and searching for meaning. Like every generation. Really wanted to find another amazing Fitzgerald, but this just wasn't it for me. When the characters go on and on with "witty repartee" I thought my head might explode.
