This one was really good! I did not expect this to be hate to love, fake dating and slow burn thing because It's a Cinderella retelling. Unlike the previous book, this one doesn't follow the plot of the disney movie exactly but instead is used like an outline instead. I liked the references to the movie in this one too. This one also took a bit to get into but honestly I think that's because Cinderella isn't super high on my list of princess movies lol. I like her but she's not in my top three. When I say this book gave me anxiety from start until the chapter before the conflict was resolved, I mean I was so nervous reading the whole time lol because of obviously how the movie goes. I was so nervous about what the stepsisters were going to do to Ember. This also gave me vampire diaries energy for some reason because Franco, the prince is a psy vampire who's a raven shifter, who can compel people and feeds off of emotions and experiences heightened emotions. He's also witty and a bit sarcastic. He's like a watered down version of Damon lol
I liked Ember since the last book when she first appeared and that carried throughout this whole book too so I'm happy about that. I felt so bad for her throughout this because of the stepfamily. I enjoyed her journey in this and how she learned to like her abilities instead of hate them. Franco on the other hand, it took me a while to start liking him tbh. He was annoying as hell in the beginning but eventually he became likable. I loved how he helped Ember a lot. I really liked the fake dating aspect in this book. I liked their relationship overall. It was really natural. Who I couldn't stand apart from the stepfamily was the queen aka Franco's sister. For someone who is supposed to be a ruler she couldn't care less about anything or anyone she annoyed me so much.
Overall though I really liked this and look forward to reading the next book eventually because hints were dropped in this.
