3/5 for the Enhanced Version with the additional illustrations and audio clips by J.R.R. Tolkien. Christopher Tolkien's foreword with a few pages of the original manuscript, drawings and sketches, and an account of the back-and-forth between Tolkien and his publishers was really interesting. Get this edition if you read on an e-reader/don't mind reading an e-book for the extras!

It is actually a 4.5 stars read for me!

I wish I had read this when I was younger, I would have enjoyed it more and it would have been easier to get through. Reading it as a grown up though, was hard to get into due to the “young adult” writing style so I ended up watching the movies before I kept on going with my reading which ended up being the push I so much needed.
