A solid, clever book that had me reeled in the whole time. (Although the 15th chapter irked my nerves. *rubs temples*)

Standalone;fast page-turner, with one twist, I did not see coming.
Highly recommended.

Okay, wow!
This book was extremely powerful. I couldn’t help but wanting to know more about each of the individual characters throughout the book. The plot itself was extremely memorable, and I can guarantee that you’ve never read a book quite like this. The only reason I took off a star was because I guessed the “big twist”, if that’s what it was supposed to be.

An eye opening look into the lives of Black gamers, and the creation of a beautiful gaming world made for an absorbing read. The ending is a bit...convenient but very satisfying.

Surprisingly compelling to me given that it's about gaming. At first I assumed I wouldn't be able to get into it, but the pace picks up speed and the characters are full, and soon I couldn't put it down. Great job examining the social issues without being preachy, too. I was really caught up in the fate of the characters. Audio has excellent narration.

I received this Arc from Simon Pulse at BookCon!

4.5!!!

SLAY is SO important for everyone to read, but especially for those black girls (like me in high school before I found my people who also liked video games & anime) who felt like we had no special places in the gaming world, or couldn't find anyone who could relate. I loved the game concept Keira created, and the mechanics and colorful nature not only reminded me of Black Panther but some other MMO's like Guild Wars and Hearthstone. It made my nerdy heart very happy!

DO not miss this book when it comes out in September :) I can't wait for the discussions once everyone is able to read it! I plan to expand this review later on!!!

The creativity that it must have taken the author to come up with a unique and fully fleshed out and detailed video game just for the book is so impressive. The way that each of the issue discussed throughout were woven into the characters stories and discussed well and thoughtfully. I loved the dynamic between the two sisters, Kiera and Steph. At first I was annoyed by the random points of view of people that are largely unimportant that would show up once for a chapter and then be gone, but I began to enjoy seeing the way that SLAY impacted the lives of so many different people around the world in different situations, and noticing how they came to overlap and affect each other in the story. I was also very happy with the way the book ended!
