The original Princess Diaries series was some of the most effective kindling in igniting my love of reading as a middle schooler, so of course my 26 year old self had to check in with 26 year old Mia.  I loved the series for centering an imperfect, awkward teenage girl who engages with kickass feminist and environmentalist causes and worries about the impact she’s having on the world.  The central thread was always the discord between who Mia was and what the royal establishment wanted her to be.

The main character in this book has basically nothing to do with Princess Mia from the original series.  This was a painful slog through an unlikeable protagonist presenting her rich people problems as “disastrous”
that ends without much description of the titular royal wedding.  The secret half sister reunion plot had potential to prompt some reflection in Mia, but lacked any real emotional depth or resolution.

I felt like I had to finish this for closure, but I should’ve just never opened the door in the first place.  1.5 stars for Grandmère only.

Wow. So many memories were coming to the surface while reading this. I realised how much I missed the series, the characters, everything. This book made me ecstatically happy, despite the fact that I sobbed every few pages (Mr G. I miss you. RIP). I loved the character development in this, though I prefer Mia as the crazed teenager she was-now,naturally, she appears to be more mature-. Also, Lilly's story arc with her swearing off boys and the getting steamy with Lars just didn't seem fitting to her character. Morevover I found the pregnancy story as well as the sister story to be completely useless . Plus, the stalker was utterly predictable. All in all, Rocky is cute af and Michael remains my one true love forever and always.
I have to go now. Nostalgia hit me again.

Really enjoyed this addition to the Princess Diaries series! Loved the writing style as usual and it was so great to see what all the characters were up to these days.

Really hard for me to care about anything that was happening.

The entirety of this book can be summed up as "#richpeopleproblems". I'm not even kidding.

I can understand why people like this book (everyone wants to be a princess and they wish to live that fantasy life through Mia's POV) but it's hard for me to empathize with Mia's first world problems. I won't spoil anything but there was something Sebastiano said in the book that pretty much described the whole story. Honestly, he was the only character in the book that I liked. Other than maybe Michael.

I mean, really? Yeah, Lilly and Tina might not be princesses, but they're both in the upper class in terms of their careers. (Won't say anything cause of spoilers) Michael is a freaking millionare.

Later on in the book Mia finds out something about herself after seeing a doctor. I was a bit disappointed Michael didn't sense what that "something" was, because it was kind of obvious. Mia's diet was pretty messed up (she was eating a lot of weird food I can't say because SPOILERS) and he didn't sense anything amiss. I mean, he's no doctor... but it would have been kind of hot if he guessed that "something" himself from observing Mia's weird diets lately. But he didn't notice.

Still, they were apart a lot so I suppose that's why he didn't notice.

Here's the thing. The proposal? SPECTACULAR! It's what saved my rating to become two stars instead of one. I don't know how to explain this, but Michael and Mia are sooo perfect. It's so blissful and happy that I kinda feel it's... boring. But it was a bit dull because there wasn't any tension between them after the proposal. I'm not saying I want them to fight or anything the previous princess diaries books contained more suspense than this one between them.

I love Michael, he was great. He makes some pretty crude jokes/comments in the book that kind of turned me off, but other than that he was okay. There was nothing in particular to dislike about him, but he did little that made me feel dazzled like in the previous books. The proposal was WOW, though, but that was it. I feel Meg's male leads have started to change with her writing style. They're a lot more... crude now. They kind of talk dirty. Like Michael refers to a certain part of his body using a rather cringeworthy term after the doctor's visit (no spoilers, don't worry), and I blanched a bit. Cooper from her Heather Wells series changed a bit too in the latest Heather Wells books. They're not as... sophisticated as before?

I think I'm the only one who picked up on that though.

All in all, it's not a bad book if you enjoy reading about the troubles of the rich and famous (I mean, the whole Olivia thing happened because the father had a happy "accident" with another woman, so... pardon me if I don't feel too wretched about Mia's family's so very heartbreakingly devastating plight) and let's face it, we like reading about the rich and famous. It's a fantasy. I get it. Meg's good; she writes a princess's life very well despite not being a princess herself!

But not something I can relate to.

a little slow , but picks up towards the second half ! exciting developments . ending was a little rushed
