Good and sensible and persistent. Gifted my copy to a friend or I’d pick it up and read it again!

uncle satoru immediately stood out to me as such a social butterfly, and yet it was touching to see that his love for momoko, his ex-wife, still lives quietly in his heart. i adored reading takako’s relationship with her uncle grow warmer and more meaningful. i also love how takako begins to recognize the value of the neighborhood—honestly, i fell in love with this cute community myself. tomo and takano were absolutely adorable together, and sabu never failed to make me laugh. i’m also totally invested in wada and takako’s dynamic! this book changed my perspective. as i read this book, i felt myself losing all sense of time.

This was such a short book, I expected to finish it very fast. But then I got into a slump. Also I’ve been reading Japanese translated books back to back. And these books are so different - the priorities of the characters, their thought processes, their perspective itself is so so different - and that has been interesting. The reader / bookstore theme has also been milked to the max for “Cozy” vibes. Overall, an interesting read, but I’ll not be continuing the series.

This book follows a girl, Takako who suffering from a heartbreak takes herself back from the world. Centering in the neighborhood of Jinbocho, the place for secondhand books, she finds herself and the beauty of this world. The slow pace of this book and the vivid description of the bookstores, coffeshops, roads and people, makes the characters and pictures alive to the readers. This is a good book to escape reading block and have a nice afternoon companion with coffee. Happy reading!!
