This made me feel better about humanity.

(I've read a few graphic memoirs this year. This is the first just prose memoir I've read this year.)

“When I was teaching part time and working at Starbucks, I would have never paid $25 to go to a presidential campaign event, especially one I didn’t know anything about.”

Most of that sentence tells you a lot about politics and class in the USA.

3.5 - I enjoyed listening to Chasten's story and learning how to correctly pronounce his name. I appreciate that he doesn't have the traditional background of most political personas and that he's much more relatable as a result. I would have enjoyed learning more about his family dynamics after he came out but I imagine that was a tough subject for him.

As I’ve stated many times before, LGBTQ stories need to be told. Interesting to learn more about this political couple and see a presidential campaign from behind the scenes.

Chasten and Pete Buttigieg made history as the first gay couple to enter national politics when Pete ran for president, but Chasten's story is equally as fascinating as Pete's, and made for an incredibly heartfelt and page-turning memoir.
