The book is fun! The parts about Chasten and Pete starting to date and fall in love are adorable. Chasten is super relatable as well, and that makes their relationship relatable. The last third was about the campaign trail and that was probably the part that dragged the most, but it was still an enjoyable listen.

Chasten’s not even that much older than me, but listening to the book largely felt like having a coffee with an older member of the queer community and chatting about how being gay had worked out for him. There’s definitely more to the book than his sexuality, but that’s absolutely the majority of it.

The other parts that were really moving were Chasten’s discussions about student debt and medical debt. Without getting too personal there, I’ll just say I really appreciated that part of the story.
There’s an anecdote about how Pete finally found out about the amount of debt Chasten was in and helped him out before saying, “Seeing a person you love walking a little lighter, knowing they’re cared for and going to be okay, is a far better feeling than having money." (Chapter 9) Idk, that was just a line that really hit me in the feels.

Anyway, like I said, the book was fun. I'll probably re-listen to the chapter about their first date at random times when I need a reminder that we have queers in high places and that gay first dates can be beautiful.

Recommend this one on audio. Being from Michigan, I especially liked the beginning chapters about his life growing up in Michigan and coming to terms with his sexuality.
