The three stars review reflects that I wasn’t always riveted. However, Chasten didn’t sign up to be the next great American novelist. I give five stars to the man himself based on his courage in being honest and his kindness and support to those in need.

What you see is what you get! If you like Chasten, you'll like his book. It's vulnerable, funny, and has a few cute moments.

I really, really enjoyed listening to this book. It felt like a really long podcast, very conversational. I was interested to hear about Chasten's youth and young adulthood experiences, his coming of age and struggles to figure out the direction of his life. As any anyone close to me could tell you, I soaked up all things Mayor Pete when he was running for president and I truly appreciated hearing about the campaign from Chasten's point of view. I felt like I was reliving the Iowa debacle all over again and it was a knife to my heart. I remember watching his speech on March 1, 2020 and noticing how Chasten seemed to be on edge and a little more misty eyed than usual, and hearing exactly what was going through his mind was very bittersweet.

So why only 4 stars? (*Ducks to avoid food being tossed in my direction*) I tried imagining myself reading this 20 years from now and I'm not sure it will age all that well, particularly for anyone who did not closely follow this year's Democratic nomination cycle. There was a brief mention of Myspace in the book and a much lengthier chapter on his Twitter and social media presence during the campaign. I chuckled at the Myspace reference but that platform feels like such a long time ago that it's been sitting on a shelf gathering the dust of time, and to me it seems like a chunk of this book will have the same feel to it down the road.

Nevertheless, it was a lovely read, insightful, and enjoyable overall.

Okay I’m obsessed. I just love the Buttigiegs. He spoke about his undergrad debt and what it was starting a relationship and bringing it into marriage. It gave me a lot of hope and peace. I just felt connected to him maybe it’s his midwestern roots.
