The final installment of the series! I really enjoyed the conclusion to this story and how all our loose plot strings were tied up. I wish there was more coming for this series, but a good author and publishing house knows to stop while you're ahead. :)

2.5 is a more accurate rating; but because of a decent conclusion, i rounded up and not down. i have mixed feelings about this book; as i said, the ending was better than expected- not too rosy as to be unbelievable, not too bleak as to be depressing. however, the rest of the book was largely underwhelming. to start with, i couldn’t remember most of what had transpired in the previous books. bits and pieces came back to me as i read this one, but not everything. even some huge plot points failed to make a lasting impression - not a good sign. characters were also easily forgotten/hard to recall. after spending two novels with them already, that should not have been the case. and i took issue with the dysfunctional relationship between howell and blackwood; a bit too heathcliff and catherine for my taste. some of their interactions seemed to border on emotional abuse. howell’s repeated justifying of blackwood was hard to stomach, let alone accept as the romantic through-line. the ending made the reasons for this more clear, but it was still a difficult journey to make prior to receiving that clarity.

Soooo good but ripped my heart out too much to give it 5 stars

I liked the world building and the ancients a lot but the last battle felt a little strange. I also fucking hated the romance. Why are we pretending Blackwood is just a lonely guy?? He was an absolute ass in this book and it was barely acknowledged except for the part where he called Henrietta a slut, which was honestly one of his lesser crimes. I enjoyed the overall series and I am happy that I finally got to finish another book series since my last one was in 2016, but the romance sucked and the last battle was anticlimactic, rushed and had some strange plotholes. I do still recommend this series , especially for the world building, but book one was the best of the three.
