overall I enjoyed it but sometimes felt the story dragged on regarding the dual timelines. I found the present-day timeline more engaging plot-wise since in Alison's pov I knew what was going to happen. There were no questions regarding her fate which detracted from the suspenseful spooky atmosphere of the current-day storyline.
I felt more connected to Erin and Clem and was drawn into the suspense that their storyline created. However, I do feel that the ending tied things up a little too neatly, I would have preferred a more vague open-ended ending.

This book is so hard to rate. I was invested throughout the whole book. But the content at times was really hard to get through. The torture. Ugh. It was rough. I mean stuff like this has really happened so it’s realistic but I wasn’t expecting that type of content. Keep in mind this is part historical fiction (which I didn’t realize) based on the synopsis, I expected present day story. I do think that that past was well done. The story was well written and you definitely experience the emotional toll the characters do.

I just also feel like the revelations weren’t too unexpected. I felt like you knew how the story would go throughout so it was just how do we arrive there. This was a good read but it wasn’t my fav.

I feel like this book was trying to be a lot and couldn't quite execute it well. It was really messy and in some parts I just wanted to stop reading but overall not a bad book once you reach the end.
