I love a re-imagining, but I really struggled with the pace of this one. It would spend multiple pages on a single moment and a single paragraph to span years and years. The stories will not give you hope or happiness, but they feel like genuine depictions of how women suffer for the rage and whims of men.

A shame because I really do love a Greek retelling but this should not be compared to Madeline Miller - ever. It’s very flowery, which is normally fine but it detracts from the pace of what should be a pretty exciting story. Ariadne is also about as interesting as a wall and I struggled to like her. All the characters are pretty flat which is bizarre given that there’s a rich history there.

There’s nothing wrong with this book but there’s also nothing great about it. I just got so. Bored.

Enjoyable read - definitely a good fit for those familiar with Greek mythology and always wanted a bit more context to the parables. Good reflection upon traditional femininity and independence, though the ending doesn't necessarily leave you inspired (it's not supposed to)
