Definitely read content warnings for this! This book was odd. I felt like it spent a lot of time detailing unimportant things and then sailed through important bits i  wish had been more detailed, so it’s hard to say if not much happens or if a lot happened. Ariadne is a timid, fretful character which was frustrating and hard to like or relate to at times. The ending is one of the darkest things I’ve ever read, but isn’t given too much detail so it loses some punch there which is not a bad thing. I wanted to love this book, but it isn’t my thing. But I can see why others like it

most of the book is people telling stories to ariadne, you don’t see much of the action. i feel like i personally went through a terrible break up by the end of this. overall a good story.

At times the book was very slow paced for me and hard to hold my interest. I found it difficult to read about tragedy after tragedy, but understandably enough this is how Greek mythology often is. I felt that the story itself was good, just somewhat hard to follow and made slow by a narrator who wasn’t always likeable, in my opinion.

If you like Greek mythology retellings like Circe, chances are you'll probably enjoy this! Like other reviews have said, I think the overall message of the story gets lost towards the end. I'm not super familiar with the Ariadne myth, but from what I can tell, this was mostly just a retelling of that story. The overall tone of the writing does feel very Greek mythology-esque, and the style felt a lot like Circe to me.

This is billed as a feminist retelling, and while there are some elements of that, it feels like it falls flat by the end. Adding maybe a few more details or fleshing out a few more characters might have helped in making this feel more feminist than just surface level.

All in all, an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of Greek mythology!
