I really, really enjoyed this. It was such a sweet romance, and the characters were wonderful and wonderfully developed. Elle is such a badass. It could not have been easy for Ms. Cole to write a romance taking place in such a horrid time, but she did a marvelous job and wrote with great sensitivity.

I picked up this book thinking it was historical fiction set during the Civil War. I wish it had been shelved as cliche romance set during the Civil War. The historical aspects were few and far between...this time period has always fascinated me and the thought of reading about African-American spies was very intriguing. Instead, it read like a paltry, "happily ever after" romance novel.

A good, spicy historical fiction. I really enjoyed the male characters and the back and forth between the main characters! The spicy scenes were good but an adjustment with the language of the times!
