Reading this SO out of season but I managed to beat this reading slump I've been in. : D
This was a solid read, I can see why it was popular and remains so. The story of a terrible rich man who hates the world and Christmas in particular, holds up. Yeah there's some outdated language, but it's very approachable. Would recommend if you're interested. Most adaptations are REALLY faithful though. Don't have much else to say.

Second read through yesterday; just as charming and heart warming as the first time! Reason it's one of my favorites for books and visual media :)
The best Christmas tale! We listen to the Jim Dale narration (of Harry Potter audiobook fame, and can't pronounce Passamaquoddy worth a damn ;)) every year.
A simple enough story every movie can capture it, even Mickey or the Muppets. But what a great way to enjoy Dickens being good at his craft.
Also, there’s nothing like a old-edition hard-cover to make me feel classy (my edition has an inscription from “Aunt Bertha , 1917” and it makes me so happy)

This is one of thee books that touch a part of your soul and make you cry, even when you aren't sure why or how they made you so emotional.
A worthy read for the days leading up to Christmas, to get in the spirit!
This is such a well known book I’m happily surprised that it’s also really good.
Every year at this same time I listen to this book. First, Tim Curry is brilliant. Brilliant. For me, there can be no other reader. Period.
The story is one we all know, and yet it never gets old. Dickens' story is of redemption but is also a social commentary on 19th-century England and both messages are driven home, yet Dickens doesn't lecture and makes Scrooge, despite his meanness, relatable. We understand how he came to be the man he is at the beginning of the story, and his transformation throughout the book makes sense.
There's no good way to review a book like this so I'll leave with the suggestion that, no matter how many times you've seen the many movie versions of this story (my personal favorite is the Alastair Sim film from the 1950s), read the book. There is so much that Dickens has done with language that even the best film adaptations can't communicate. Read the book. It's gorgeous.
