Was a reread for English lit mock exam.

This is obviously not my first time reading this. But I pick a little more up each time I read it. It's part of the curriculum so I read it once a year. This year I actually watched the Alistair Sim film version and thoroughly enjoyed that.

I've read this nearly perfect book several times, and I've seen movie, stage, and TV adaptations even more times. But I had never listened to it before, and I hadn't read it in a few years. Listening to it was fabulous, with the narration being performed by my audiobook boyfriend Simon Prebble. I loved his deep gravelly English voice and his emotive range. A great book and a great audiobook.

I love A Christmas Carol - the story is still effective 180 years after it was written - and Simon Prebble's narration is brilliant.

So much better than any production or movie. Those are fun to watch, but nothing beats the book. (Oddly enough, the Jim Carrey version may be the best non-book one you'll find.)

I'm surprised by how much I loved this. It's very simple and straightforward. I think the only version of this story I've ever taken in is Mickey's Christmas Carol, and that adaptation is really so good that you're able to get pretty much the entire story in all its detail from that. Normally there's a lot that is lost from page to screen.

So, few surprises and really very little complexity, but it's still just nice. And the writing is of a style that I enjoy.

Will read this again, for sure, and this has finally made me resolve to read Dickens. I'm sure I'll enjoy more of his work as well.

Unrealistic character development.
