this may be my favorite christmas book ever?
The writing was hard to enjoy. I understand that the premise is that these sisters are at odds, their family dynamic is toxic, but that they’re supposed to become closer through this story. But I couldn’t do it. It was so vitriolic that I couldn’t hang on for the possibility of a payoff, not to mention all the wading through body-phobic language I had to do on almost every page. Aside from that, it’s a poor facsimile of a holiday story. Not once did it feel warm and cozy. Not once did reading it feel comforting. Not one did I even glimpse a holiday sort of spirit to this story. Save your time, save tour money, save yourself the headache and read literally anything else.
Graphic: Body shaming, Bullying, Sexism, Gaslighting
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Cute, heartwarming holiday read!
Only read to chapter 27, skimmed the rest, lost my interest in a Christmas read but wanted to know how it ended. Would go back and get the details though. Maybe next December.
I finished this book while my sister was getting her appendix removed. I don’t know if that’s what made me feel so predisposed to liking this Christmas family drama that happens to open with a pair of sisters. I was charmed (I love Christmas and bookshops so pretty sure I was the target audience), but I wish the plot was tighter - in particular around the romance, and Mr McCredie.

Read this if you’re looking for a comforting book that’s easy to read and has holiday vibes.
This feels like a hallmark movie as a book, which I don’t think is necessarily a bad thing. It follows a formula I’ve seen in other content like this (movies and books), but it’s also comforting and definitely put me in the holiday spirit.
It can be frustrating at times when certain scenes occur and definitely had me wanting to yell at the characters, but it’s easy enough to look past for a quick and easy holiday read.

This was a perfect cozy book to kick off my year with. Definitely helping me keep the Christmas spirit alive as we head into the darkest parts of the winter.
