I’m a big Jenny Colgan fan and this book was just charming!
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Carmen loses her job and has to move back in with her parents. When her sister, Sofia, finds her a job with one of her clients in Edinburgh. Sofia and Carmen don’t really get a long, but she does need Carmen’s help with her 2 kids since she’s also pregnant. The job is to help a struggling bookstore make a profit during the Christmas season. Carmen finds herself enjoying the job and the people she’s meeting, but must work out a few kinks.
Everything about this book is so sweet! The setting is extremely Christmasy and cozy. The characters are lovely and the sister relationship was done so well. I also thought the character development was well done.
I listened to the audio and did find the main character to come off a little annoying, but I don’t think it would have been that way if I read it.
Overall, I’d totally suggest this book!

A festive feel good book that explores love in all its forms, romantic, platonic and familial.
The miscommunication trope is weaved throughout this book and highlights the importance of sharing how we feel and not deciding how others feel for them.
This book is worth the read if you like a festive novel, but I’ve not rated higher as the plot/characters are unlikely to stick with me.

I have read The Christmas bookshop by Jenny Colgan. I read a Dutch copy from the library whilst listening to the audiobook. Read this for my in real life book club. This is an adult contemporary romance book.
Did not like this as you can see. I thought this was going to be a cosy read, but it really was not for me. The main character just kept fighting with her sister and that was really annoying to read about. The only part I liked was the bookshop, but that was actually a very small part of the book. The romance was kind of stupid, so did not enjoy that either. There was also quite a bit of fatphobia. Would not recommend.
