3.5 stars. i really loved how strong-minded the heroine was.

OMG SO GOOD. The Bronte sisters were/are my jam, but Daphne come in strong and made me love the Cornish moors as much as the Yorkshire ones. Loved the gothic setting and overall menacing feel of the book, and I love, energy more, that is based on real places throughout Cornwall (am I the only person that actively googles and maps out books as they read them. Yes? Oh, okay). I'd highly recommend for anyone who loves a good mystery/sensational setting or gothic classic. This is now up there in my top five favorite books (outside of Harry Potter, duh.).

First rate gothic suspense lit with a sassy (and yet also very silly) female lead.

Oh Mary - that made for a disappointing last 2 pages! I thought you were so headstrong and independent...I'm all for free choice, but that felt a little forced.

3.5 stars.
Ranking this 3rd on the 'Favorite Novels bu Du Maurier' list after Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel. However this one scores points for having the most likable female protagonist.

A good enough read, however some of the detailed descriptions were tedious and long winded.
