Seramago spends a great deal of time in this book trying to make a point,  the point he is trying to convey to his readers is not very clear and only in the last sixth of the book does a message or meaning become clear. It is very frustrating to read but can make the reader relate to the main problem the characters face; blindness.

I read this book as a part of a book club and I think if it weren't for that factor, I probably would've put the book down. I can appreciate the concept and development of the book, but it was pretty slow and the punctuation style was difficult at times. This book was also extremely heavy and could definitely be considered triggering - going into it, I knew it would be like this at times, but not to the extent that it was. I would recommend the novel though to mature fans of Lord of the Flies, as I do see a lot of similarity in between the two books.
