i did not understand 95% of this. too many characters and obscure scientific shit….liked the first and last stories the most and it was well written throughout just not for me!
all some variation on “this guy (a guy, a man, a dude, by the way) did too much math and went cRaZy—just like the world during the first world war.” but 16-year-old tubuncular muses aside the facts about these thinkers and their discoveries are stranger than the fiction, and also richer in theme. and really, what a boring way to talk about math and its implications. you don’t have to be a tortured genius to do math. you can even be—gasp—a woman!

In a way, fiction and reality are woven together throughout this book like wave-particle duality: there is no deep-seated Truth with capital T, no absolute reality outside the bookends of dreams and science (of scientific dreams and dreamy science), and no metaphysics of the world that's entirely derivable from the iron laws of Newtonian physics.

Maybe more like 4.5 but this was what dark academia WISHES it could be. I’m not smart enough to understand the humor in this book. I’ve immediately forgotten everything I’ve read. Excellent.
