Breakaway Hearts is the second book by Nikki Lawson and I absolutely devoured this book in 24 hours. Reese Sutton is a top tier book boyfriend!

Reese Sutton plays for the NHL team, the Denver Aces, where he recently gets dumped by his ex-girlfriend, Sienna, who also happens to work as a lawyer for the NHL team. He is desperate to win her back at any cost, even asking his best friend to be his fake girlfriend to make Sienna jealous.

Callie is an elementary school teacher who Reese has been best friends for many years so when he asks her to be his fake girlfriend to help win his ex-girlfriend back, she agrees. He says he'll do anything to repay her, and she wants him to show her how to be better in bed. He's hesitant to agree as he doesn't want to ruin their friendship, but he does anyways. The way Callie views herself and is so self conscious of her body feels like I am talking about myself. She is so easy to relate too!

As Reese and Callie start their spicy lessons, they start to feel more than just a friendship towards each other. I loved the banter between them as friends and lovers.

There was definitely a lot more spice than plot in my opinion, but nothing wrong with that when you have a man like Reese. The length of this book is a little unnecessary, but at the end of the day, I loved every minute of it.

Highly recommend to everyone and those who definitely love a good hockey romance!

such a cute friends to lovers!! loved the mutual pining

3.5 If we could give 1/2s

Not bad, decent spice, but wasn’t as invested in the main characters getting together. I wanted more fake-dating hilarity, but was focused on sex lessons.

Recommend to anyone who likes instructional dirty talk

This was better than I expected but also exactly what I expected. It’s a typical hockey romance where he’s a hotshot and she’s in the background but like always I’ll read it and enjoy it every time. I always like friends to lovers stories and this one was no exception although I wish I got to see more of their friendship over the years not just in the span of a few months. The fake dating combination with the teach me trope was great and I liked what both of them added to the story. However this book had a lot more spice in it than I was expecting and in the end it felt like too much. It started early on and it just never stopped and it just felt like it was taking away from the story. The third act breakup was also ridiculous but at the same time I knew it was gonna happen. So overall an enjoyable read but not a memorable one.
