This book is incredibly long, but my god, is it worth it. The political/vengeful scheming is wonderful (even if I still don't fully understand what the "salt verification" policy was about) and the emotions... Exquisite.

Love this book! I've already read FGEP a while ago, and finally got over my hesitation of delving into such a big piece as JWQS (thanks to the propaganda from Melts). I still think I personally perfer FGEP, but this is another lovely novel by PDL.
It's complex, well written, and entertaining. I would love to see it adapted, in whichever medium.
If you're into enemies to lovers, extremely slow burn, and some interesting and frsutrating plots, JWQS is for you.

Okay hmm wtf this is a new fave and I need to gather my thoughts. My emotions have been rearranged and I will never be the same.
I started this novel on January 1st right after midnight and it's now January 15th afternoon. 307 chapters and I'm done. My heart is empty and full and I'm still wiping my tears away (nothing will top last night's angst ~chapter 260 but chapter 306 made me cry all over again)

A common complaint in my reviews is "well that happened too fast". Let me tell you that I do not have this particular complaint this time. Although this novel is really long I don't feel like any chapter was wasted on something insignificant, I never skipped a paragraph and I took my time to always read carefully carefully absorb new information.
Because this is a political novel (among other things) and the writer has done a great job at explaining to the reader what was going on. I never felt loss and if there was a loose end or an action I couldn't understand, the answer was spelled in the text 50 chapters later.
Okay but what exactly is this book that I'm praising? It's the story of the revenge of the Prince of the grass plains, Qiyan Agula who accidentally ends up marrying the daughter of his enemy and falls in love with her. Oh and also they're both women. Qiyan Agula is a terrible master manipulator but I support women's rights and especially women's wrongs.
This story said romance and yearning and ANGST. Oh my god I love angst and I was fed SO WELL. So much ANGST (with a happy ending). You have no idea how happy I was to read a story that catered exactly to my taste of having my heart ripped out from my chest.
There's a lot of things that I want to mention but this review can't be infinite but god this story is so complex.
I need to conclude this to say that I read the translation and I want to thank the translator for their work. While it took me some time to get into the writing style I was hooked by the end. I regret not jotting down my favourite quotes because some sentences were truly remarkable but nothing tore my heart more than the title for chapter 263 "The wooden sculpture that was kept silently for many years"
