I was not prepared for the sadness and the toll that it would bring me when reading this book.
If you’re looking for a lesbian political enemies to lovers, I highly recommend you read this book. It is 307 chapters/3340+ pages of heartbreak, love, and anger with lesbians a plenty.
This author is skill full at getting your guard down and thinking everything was going to be okay. If this book wasn’t still ongoing, and I was reading this live, I think I would perish.
Literally towards the later end of the book, you’re lulled into a false sense of security before the author lands a one-two punch following up with a roundhouse kick, and a sharp jab to the eyeballs.
And you know what, I THANK the author for doing this because truly, I think I will never feel true heartbreak the same way after having finished this book.

i have slept for 8 hours so i can now talk more about this book. first of all, i hold so much awe and respect for the author for writing such a long, big-brain novel. clear and muddy loss of love is an epic story that spans decades and is full of elaborate political schemes that made my brain go brrrr. of course, there's also the romance that's full of angst and yearning that destroyed me in the best possible way.
my only issue with this novel is that it ended abruptly. there were quite a few things left unanswered. i guess i just expected the ending to be as elaborate as the rest of the novel but...it wasn't. however, this was still an excellent read overall. i really want more people to pick this up!! even though the page count can be daunting at first, it's still worth the read if you are a fan of slow-burn, well-crafted stories.

it's 12:05 am and i finally finished this book!!!! more than a million words of pain DONE. don't have enough brain cells rn to write a review but definitely loved this one. reading 4k+ pages of this book was worth it. bye im gonna sleep now.

If you told past me that I would read a 4000 pages book in a month I would not believe you but here I am?? The fact that this novel could keep me entertained during it's entirety shows you just how good it is. I actually don't know what I am going to do now.…
The plot was so insane sometimes it had me gasping out loud like PDL you’re a genius. The political intrigue? I wasn’t bored for a single page, reason why I finished this so fast, and I usually get bored really quickly.
I get tears in my eyes just thinking of Qijing… they are slow burn excellence. I couldn’t stop thinking about them while reading and I won’t stop thinking about them for a while. I have no words to express how much I love them.
So many good things to say about this novel, the plot the political drama, the schemes the world building etc.
All the characters are each really memorable so I never got confused with names or anything. I loved Gongyang Huai and Nangong Shunu especially.
I’m going to start PDL’s other novel FGEP soon so I’m excited for that! Oh and I can’t wait for the Donghua and the English books!
Spoilers: I actually thought the author lied to us about the happy ending towards the end but thank god it was one because I could not handle a sad one after all we’ve went through. It ended kind of abruptly and I don’t see why the extras are called that because that’s just the continuation of the story like you can’t not read them in my opinion. I still loved the ending as long as they’re happy that’s all that mattered to me seriously…

Enjoyed the read.
The first half of the book is definitely more captivating than the second.
- QYA certainly got the short end of the stick. She deserved better.
- NGJ had it easy (easier rather) and was frankly unlikeable towards the end.
