this book felt kind of eh towards the beginning, then I got more into it and wanted to know what would happen to the sick twin, and who was behind everything, but then the end just fizzled. Still, a pretty good book, just not wonderful.

The perfect book for a really long plane ride; a great page-turner.

This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book that I read. I was so impresesd with it that I kept reading her books. I always am able to figure out the end especially in a mystery (like this book), but I could not guess it. I have yet to be able to figure out the murderer in her books. This is a wonderfull book and if you like mysteries than this is for you.

this was my first MHC novel and now i understand her title as the queen of suspense. This book isn't much of a mystery as the narration comes from all sides and we know who the kidnappers are immediately, but that doesn't take away from the nail biting feeling it gives you along the way. I really enjoyed how real it felt and as a parent the whole idea was just terrifying on its own, the little details were part of what really did it for me with this book though. i loved every little mistake the kidnappers made and their confidence that no one would find out, and evey time a character hit upon some clue and paused but then decided it was nothing made me want to jump up and start yelling (and that made the suspense so much better) I will look forward to reading more of her other novels soon!

"Margaret and Steve Frawley celebrate the third birthday of their twin girls, Kelly and Kathy, with an afternoon party in their new home. That evening, Steve and Margaret attend a black-tie dinner in New York. On returning home, the police are in the house, the babysitter has been found unconscious, the children are gone and a note demanding an eight million dollar ransom has been left in their room. Steve firm agrees to pay the ransom. The kidnapper, who identifies himself as the "Pied Piper", makes his terms known - on delivery of the ransom, a call will come revealing the girls' whereabouts. The call comes, but only Kelly is in the car parked behind a deserted restaurant. The driver is dead from a gunshot wound and has left a suicide note, saying he had inadvertently killed Kathy and had dumped her body in the ocean. At the private memorial Mass for Kathy, Kelly tugs Margaret's arm and says: "Mommy, Kathy is very scared of that lady. She wants to come home right now." More unexplainable occurrences follow, indicating that Kelly is in touch with Kathy. At first, no one except the mother believes that the twins are communicating and that Kelly is still alive. As Kelly's warnings become increasingly specific and alarming, however, the FBI agents set out on a search for Kathy. As they close in on the Pied Piper and his accomplices, Kathy's life hangs on a thread." (From Amazon)

I am on the fence with this one - while I liked the story I found this one too easy to figure out.
