Well-told story about Dick Grayson with amazing art. Give Pattinson's Batman Robins.

If you love Dick Grayson, you should enjoy this.

I believe this shows where some of the fraction later when Dick becomes Nightwing comes in, not saying that it isn't taken care of then, but Dick has on his shoulders is a lot more weight than any other boy his age should carry at the time or even after. It is a wonderful look into the early years of when he first became the Boy Wonder, soaring the city skyline at the side of Batman proving himself. He has flaws like any of us being so young, though he later turns it around to prove that he is worthy of what he wants to do with Bruce.

I liked this take on the origin of Robin, especially seeing the parallels between him and Bruce’s orphan years. The storyline with two-face was also compelling enough.

The three Year One books for the main Batman characters are all very good. Batman's is by Frank Miller so it is very dark, but Robin and Batgirl are pretty light, and still good.

Another re-read as I'm presently on a Nightwing/Oracle kick because of the Convergence release. I went back to the retconned beginning of these two and their burgeoning relationship. This one was serious and adorable. Alfred is pitch perfect, and Bruce & Dick are beautiful growing into each other. Jim totally owns my heart for comments to Batman about dropping him off a building if he gets Robin hurt, and for the comments to Robin about how he will never have a chance with his daughter.

So much grinning was achieved by this.

Art/Paneling: Not great not horrible either, the design of Huntress and Lynx and their posing is however bad.
Story: the action plot with the cartoony sterotypical russians is ... well, not the worst kind. The emotional plot with Tim and his father is not inventing any wheels but nice, I geniune liked the ending.

Nice to revisit some of the comics I had in single issues from days gone by. I don't think I ever actually had the full mini series. It was fun for nostalgia's sake, but the story isn't great. The character designs were just awful.
