Didn't enjoy the writing, pov changes and how ridiculously short the chapters were. I did not vibe with it and I have too much on my tbr to waste time reading books I don't enjoy.

I know this book is very popular but I couldn't get into it. I found it a bit confusing, to be honest. And no idea how certain B stories fit together. It felt less like a "ahh everything is connected" and more of "B stories just doing a forced cameo at the end". Perhaps it was trying to set up a universe for sequels?

This was my second time reading this book, having last read it more than 15 years ago, and I enjoyed it much more this time around!
The first story with holistic detective Dirk Gently is as convoluted and tangled as one would expect from humorous mastermind Douglas Adams: It features a handful of seemingly unrelated and rather strange situations, that only end up making sense when Dirk takes them apart towards the end of the book. It's a strange, hilarious and bumpy ride with the clueless characters, a feast for everyone who loves a big portion of weirdness in their entertainment.
However, compared to the Netflix show, the story, the pacing and even the whole character of Dirk Gently is vastly different, so keep that in mind if you are looking for something that is exactly like the show. They are both insanely funny, but book-Dirk is completely different from TV-Dirk, in both appearance and character.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is not quite the masterwork as The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but an easy and humorous read from one of my favourite authors.
