Malakai and Kiki’s love story was an enjoyable ride that rang true in my ears. I could find myself in so many of Kiki’s points on the Brown Sugar podcast, I’m certain I would’ve been an avid listener in that universe.

Babalola’s writing captures Black environments and experiences with care and necessary detail, albeit at times leaning into over explaining. Still, the story’s warmth and authenticity made it a great read.

This is a rom-com that just hit all the marks... great dialog, great intimate communication between the couple, and friends. Oh the friends! Loved these friends. I laughed out loud many times just from the banter. The end tipped me towards my highest rating for a slightl spicey rom-com. That being said the dialog itself was on fire!
Looking forward to reading a sequel.

DID NOT FINISH: 11%

The writing is excellent and the audiobook narration is amazing. Unfortunately I just cannot stand the self-importance of college kids. :) Will definitely look for something else by this author.
