I don't ship Mal and Alina, so the whole story is pointless to me. You can't have a cool and powerful character like Darkling and want me to ship her with Mal. Nope.

Starts fast, but most of the book is pretty slow paced

I would say the previous book was a lot better, I devoured that and while this still was good it was not as captivating. I quickly realised that there were three amplifiers, (the covers) and that part was exciting but overall the characters felt like they were just waiting, the battle wasn’t grand because they were sold out and at the end of it I felt slightly disappointed. I wanted more realisations and a chase for an important goal, I wanted more scenes with Alina and the Darkling actually talking about their connection. Mostly the characters were just lost it felt like. I really loved the new characters like Nikolai though.

Overall though- the world building is absolutely stunning. I will continue reading Ruin and rising ASAP.

Honestly, it was disappointing. I heavily dislike Alina as a character, she just repeatedly does the stupidest things. Zoya's character was inconsistent, Mal was a typical sadboi, and it felt like everyone intentionally screwed everything up.

Mal is boring as always but Nikolai is the loml and the amount of shock i was not expecting the book to be different from the show (in a good way)

So I really did enjoy this book but the main thing what was annoying me was the big lengthy chapters I like short chapters and especially when you're listening to it on Audible when it's about 30 minutes a chapter it's hard to concentrate so we start with Mal and the summoner on a boat where we left them last time then shortly after that they start living in a town maybe a village I'm not sure but our found by The darkling who has a plan to take Mal and the Summoner and make mal track this dragon who lives in the water to get the scales off it to make another thing to make the summoner stronger they do find the creature and they do get the scales and then someone makes a bracelet out of it the similar now feels stronger than before but they find out that there's one more creature they have to find they do end up losing the darkling and stay with the person who stole the boat it was a five star book I think the chapters did really annoy me and that's why they lost one star

I’m shocked right now.. this book was so good! I loving the new characters especially Nikolai. He is definitely an interesting character. I’m very much excited to see the main characters grow as well as the new side characters! Not going to lie I teared up a little reading this book. I’m very excited to read the last book soon!
