Thanks so much to Macmillan Children’s Books, Bethany Rutter, and NetGalley for providing me with an eArc of this title! I knew I had to request this book when I read that it featured a fat protagonist who actually – gasp! – likes her body most of the time! And that adorable cover – can’t forget the draw of a good cover design. Minor warnings for mentions of fatphobia, homophobia, racism – but dealt with sensitively throughout.

This was such a lovely read. I found not much happened really, there weren’t any major dramas or secrets or plot twists, but it was so wholesome and cute. I loved Lily as a main character and her mum is so sweet. I loved how the struggles of sexuality and university self esteem were handled and I feel like if I read this book as a teenager it would have really helped me feel less lonely!!

I loved Bethany’s first book, No Big Deal, and I think that left high expectations for this book which unfortunately wasn’t as good. It’s a great easy read but it just lacked a bit of substance. Nothing much really seemed to happen but we also didn’t really get to know the characters that well. However, we love a fat babe who loves herself and calls people out on their fatphobia.

I think it is a great book for teens to read to see that uni isn’t the only option for them. This book also covers important topics like racism and homophobia and yay for some Bi representation. I did think the ending was predictable and a bit rushed but it was cute in the end. However, the middle part was kinda awkward.

All in all, I’d say it’s a nice quick and easy body positive read for teens in that in between stage who are maybe figuring out their sexuality or what they want to do after school. Also if you haven’t already, check out No Big Deal for a great body positive read.

This book was just so sweet, and honestly so relatable in so many ways.

Lily was such a likeable MC. She was human and made mistakes but all her mistakes felt so completely understandable. She reminded me so much of myself, running away from problems instead of tackling them head on because it seems easier, even though it only ever makes things harder.

I also ADORED Cassie. Ugh she was just such a beautiful friend and an even better love interest. Her and Lily’s relationship just made me so, so happy.

This book also had a really interesting twin sibling dynamic that I enjoyed, even though I didn’t like Daisy very much. I like that she owned her behaviour in the end and agreed to work on some things.

And just shoutout to Cal for being the kindest, loveliest, most understanding human ever? I need a sequel where Cal sticks around as the supportive bestie pls.

I can’t recommend this enough if you’re looking for a sweet summer read.
