This is the concluding entry in the Indranan War trilogy, completing the story arc. As with the previous two entries, I enjoyed this greatly. Hail, the narrator and central figure, continues to be a thoroughly likable and satisfying heroine. The trilogy has some of the flavor of Star Wars -- colorful imperial politics, gunrunners, treachery and loyalty, space battles and aliens. Though I primarily found this a fun ride, there were dark moments and losses offsetting the action and verve.

Hao, Hail, Emmory, and Zin continue to be my favorites in a large cast. I'm delighted there's a second trilogy about them.

Four out of five imperial stars.

About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).

Perfectly readable fast paced pewpew space opera. I was disappointed by the lack of depth in the worldbuilding, but it’s entertaining enough as a diverting read. Just don’t think about it too hard!

3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 because I really liked the whole series. I like the main characters, the attitude, the fast pace, and the tightly-drawn emotions, but I did skim a little in some of the battles. Also, I admit I'm horrible with names, and there are so many secondary characters and she uses their first/last names and titles so interchangeably that I finally stopped trying to keep up with them all. But overall, it's a great SF series with an interesting premise and characters. I'm putting her next series on my list.

4 1/2 stars. This series keeps getting better and more interesting as I listen to it. Sometimes, it does tend to feel just a little too long - I think I would have lost patience if I'd had to listen to one more booby-trap scenario, coming as they did on top of the sniper scenarios and other dangers, but one less might have been a bit tighter. I must ding this series a bit for the sheer number of sympathetic characters, some of whom probably ought not to be due to their history and their way of life - but I just lump it in with the suspension of disbelief, because I like to like characters who are on the 'side of right.'
