Dicen que se debe separar el arte del artista. Pero, ¿cómo alguien puede leer "Me gusta cuando callas" y no pensar en lo que representa?

I think I had two poems that really resonated with me but they go well all together. The two poems are "Para que tu me oigas" and "Puedo escribir los versos". Had to read this book in Spanish because I think the translations destroy the work sometimes and needed to dust up on my Spanish but I don't think I'm going to find a lot if his other work in Spanish

Read in the space of a D+D session after I found it on sale at the local bookstore. Neruda has some absolutely gorgeous imagery in his poetry, and this edition has the bonus of having the original Spanish on the opposite page, which is something I'm always a sucker for with translations.

I finally got around to reading Neruda. I hear people read him now and then at open mics, and I always like them, but I never read one of his books.

Neruda is known for his love poems, so I thought this book would be a good place to start. These are the romantic poems that people think of when they want the person they love to write them a poem. They are passionate and sensual. The next time someone asks me for a love poem suggestion (this happens sometimes), I am going to send them to Neruda.

Neruda's titles are always the first phrase of the poem (I noticed this is not the case in other translations). The line and stanza breaks are not even or uniform. I think this suits the poems.

When I went to look for the poems online, I kept finding other translations. I am trying to post only Merwin translations of the poems.
My favorites in the book:

Every Day You Play

So That You Will Hear Me

Almost Out of the Sky

We Have Lost Even

Absolutely terrible, worst thing I've ever read.

Oh my god. Pablo Neruda slays my soul with his beautiful language and imagery. All the emotion in his words, the passion and anguish ... it all feels so real when I read his poems. As I read this collection of poetry, I wanted to read everything aloud. It felt like every word and phrase, every poem needed to be read aloud. I'd only read 'Tonight I Can' previous to this but I loved all of the poems. Desperately.

Seduction, without the passive vulgarity that persists in modern literature.
Allegories, without the pretension that invades the works of poets.
Beauty, with a flow so natural that it sweeps you from reality and delivers to the world of the words.
And women, magnificent, magical and immortal.

A beautiful, expansive collection of poems, sonnets, and a song. One of the premier poets in recent history. // Una hermosa y extensa colección de poemas, sonetos y una canción. Uno de los mejores poetas de la historia reciente, creo.
