My favourite
I Remember You As You Were
"I remember you as you were last autumn.
You were the grey beret and the still heart.
In yOUr eyes the flames of twilight fought on. the leaves fell on the water of your soul.
Clasping my arms like a climbing plant
the leaves garnered your voice, that was slow and at peace.
Bonfire of awe in which my thirst was burning.
Sweet blue hyacinth twisted over my soul.
I feel your eyes traveling, and the autumn is far off: grey beret, voice of bird, heart like a house, towards which my deep longings migrated and my kisses fell, happy as embers.
Sky from a ship, Field from the hills:
Your memory is made of light, of smoke, of a still pond!
Beyond your eyes, farther on, the evenings were blazing.
Dry autumn leaves revolved in your soul."

I had to take a break after reading some of the lines in his poems.
Some of them made me feel SO MANY things at once that it was overwhelming— "So That You Will Hear Me" "Leaning into the Afternoons" "We Have Lost Even"" and "Almost out of the Sky"
Some of them, though, made me feel uncomfortable and they just felt disturbing and wrong. Poems such as "Every Day You Play" and "I Like for You to Be Still"

mi parte favorita es cuando nos dicen que, de hecho, no se llamaba Pablo Neruda
This book was published when the author was what--20? Young love, sensual poetry. It reminded me of the Song of Solomon in its eroticism. I read and reread the lines in English, I murmured the words in Spanish in my horrible pronunciation. For its sheer beauty this is unbeatable. One of my favorite books of poetry now. 4.5 stars, I'd probably rate it higher if I could read it in Spanish.
