Review for the individual comics contained in this collection.

Minor SPOILERS to follow.

The good news:
No intergalactic sexual escapades with hot alien babes who have an aversion to facial hair. No 3-mile tall Super Suits. No alien mafia in Vegas. No Tony Stark as a genetically enhanced Messiah. No Greg Land.

The bad news:
I still don't care for Gillen's Iron Man.

I don't know why I keep coming back to this series. I really, really don't. And it's sad when the best compliment I can give this volume is "at least it's not as bad as the first three."

I love Gillen. I love Iron Man.

I just don't like the two of them together.

However, this volume DOES set up for an interesting crossover with Thor: God of Thunder in future issues, so I suppose I'll need to keep reading.

I just hope this doesn't turn into yet another Marvel-verse cross-over spectacular. But Marvel seems utterly incapable of going more than 6 months without some Company Wide Crossover Spectacular that Will Forever Change Everything (Except HAHA NOT REALLY), so I'm not actually holding my breath or anything.

Tony Stark, Engineer. Bruce Banner, Scientist. I kind of like the focus Marvel is making on smart people being smart, rather than just being super. And this one, the city of the future but done with planning and simulations is pretty good. Of course it falls apart in a superhero way but not completely. And Arno Stark may be sticking around.

So much of the rating for this book depends upon where the next volume goes. The Mandarin rings seeking people out to take them over and attempt to destroy Tony Stark feels way, way too much like Green Lantern. Tony still has his trademark humor, but there is a mystery at the end of the volume as to who is controlling the rings. And if this is developed well, it could redeem this volume a bit more.

This run had a lot of ups and downs. There's lots of stuff here I didn't like, but it got better as it went.

Since I've only started reading Iron Man with this series, I was a bit behind concerning some of the mythos (the Mandarin rings, mainly), though I did manage to follow what was happening (and found it quite interesting). I'm still not sure about the "Stark parentage" storyline, but I'm willing to go along with it.

Also : more Pepper and more Rhodes, please.

Not able to attach photos from the app but the wrong "your" was used. (should have been "your," instead was "you're.") Besides that, this volume just wasn't as good as the previous ones, unfortunately.

This I actually like quite a bit - if there's one complaint I have, it's that I wish there was more time devoted to Tony and Arno building their city. The idea of the Mandarin's rings zipping around in a Green Lantern kind of way is a nice touch, too. More of a return to form from the first volume after the Secret Origin business.
